How to Achieve Peace of Mind

Rob McCarter, MS, LPC

Directions-whenever you find the circumstances of life are threatening to overtake your peace of mind---you confidence in yourself and/or your God, do the following:

  1. Take a deep breath.

  2. Repeat to yourself (or think)...."Peace be still" while simultaneously thinking of a place in your mind to a time in your past in which you experienced, "peace of mind"...be there visually, auditorily, and emotionally.

  3. Mentally confess of one or more of the following promises of God and allow the promise to override the negative circumstance

Scriptures Guaranteed To Give You Peace of Mind

(Mat 11:28-29 NIV) "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. {29} Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

(John 14:27 NIV) Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

(Rom 15:13 NIV) May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

(Psa 23:1-3 NIV) The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. {2} He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, {3} he restores my soul.

(Phil 4:6-7 NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. {7} And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

(Mat 6:26 NIV) Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

(John 10:10 NIV) I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

  4. PRACTICE-PRACTICE-PRACTICE...these steps during your "quiet" times while simultaneously listening to your "Because He Lives" tape...THEN you’ll be ready to reclaim "peace of mind" during the not-so-quiet times.....
